In my life, I have encountered a lot of really amazing people that have had a HUGE impact on my life. The ones that have had the biggest impact on me are the ones who had the best attitudes.
Now that may seem odd to most, that attitude is the one thing that has the biggest impact on me, but allow me to explain. If you have a bad attitude, chances are, I will never meet you, or at least never take the time to get to know you in any meaningful way. If I don't get to know you, you can't impact me. Sure, I'll admit there are people with bad attitudes you can learn from, but by and large, people with a positive mental attitude are the ones I choose to spend my time with, and thus are the ones I learn the most from.
Now these positive people have a few characteristics in common, though they can be quite different as well. Perhaps these are the 4 characteristics that I share with them, so that's why they stand out. Maybe you can see yourself sharing one, two or all of these 4 characteristics, and if so, please contact me right away. I'd love to connect with you and be your friend.
Those 4 characteristics are:
Communicator - People with a positive attitude are good communicators with good communications skills. These people, even when they don't say much, say a lot with their smiles, their body language, and the way they listen to others talk, and they seem to genuinely care for the people they are talking to.
Uniqueness - No two people are the same, and that's okay. People with a positive attitude value this uniqueness, and recognize that though we are all different, we all have gifts different from others, and they realize that these gifts are what makes us all great. Unlocking this uniqueness is what makes getting to know new people fun and exciting. Treasuring this uniqueness instead of wishing people were "just like me" is what gives you a positive attitude.
Relational - Positive people know how to get along with other people, and take the time to grow relationships whenever possible. Normally they will surround themselves with other positive people and will amp the energy level way up, sometimes so much it's hard to get me them to stop talking.
Energetic - Positive people are energetic! You often know there's a positive person around the moment they walk into a room, because they're shaking hands with people, or if they're like me, they're hugging old friends they haven't seen in a while, they take the time to use other people's names, and they introduce people to one another and know something about the people they are introducing so they want to know more about the other person.
Rarely do you see a positive person as a wallflower at an event, at least not for long, because if they're not out there, people ask them what's wrong and try to break them out of their funk.
Think about this CURE for what's ailing you, and how can you help CURE someone else's ails? You'll probably deepen a friendship, and make an impact on someone you may not even know all that well. And to me, there's no bigger high than making someone else's life just a little bit better!
Make every day a great day!

This is a great list, Phil. When I think about my own personal attitude heroes, they definitely demonstrate - perhaps without even realizing it - several (if not all) of these characteristics!
I've heard it said that if you resonate with certain characteristics like the ones you've pointed out, it's either because you already share them (as you've mentioned) or because they are parts of you you haven't identified yet.
What better way to identify what WE want to become than to start by recognizing these qualities in others? :)

Thanks for this article about a positive attitude Phil. It sure does work. It seems as if in a group of people if one has a negative attitude it spreads faster than the flu. I checked out your mentor list a month or so ago and picked Christine Kane to find out what she has to say. Keep up the good work and God Bless You!
