If you're a manager, do you "GET IT!"?

The brilliant Lisa Haneberg has a great article on The Power of Getting It. I really encourage you read the article, and frequent her blog. She's one of my favorite management gurus who always stretches my thinking.

She mentions one of her slides that she gave in a recent presentation that I am going to share with some of my fellow managers Monday morning:

Anyone can be a great middle manager but they must "get it."

WOW Lisa, this is outstanding, and is a beautiful and elegant way to say "Get IT or get OUT!" if you're a manager. The good news? If we work at it, we can get it! I am always trying to get it!

Lisa also has some great definitions of getting it. My favorite, and one I try to live by in my management life:

Positive energy is infectious - if you want to have a great team and results, be the poster child of focused joy and resolve.

If you're a manager, it's up to you to figure it out, get it, whatever you want to call it, or stop doing being a manager and get out of the way so someone else can handle your opportunity to get it.

Make it a great day!

I like Lisa's line about the need for managers to step up to the challenge. Reminds me of the movie "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade", when Professor Henry Jones, Sr. (Sean Connery) comments on Marcus Brody's (Denholm Elliott) role in the quest for the Grail. "He's not up to the challenge!" say Dr. Jones, Sr.

I've used the line many times in business settings. Lots of managers out there seem like they should be doing something else.
