Perform a Random Act of Kindness
Steve Pavlina shares the best Thanksgiving Day post I've read. It's an inspiring story about sharing something small, even though you don't have much, and watching the difference it makes in others' lives. It really touched me, and then, to top it off, Steve offers up a challenge for us (emphasis mine, not Steve's):
Heart-Centered Motivation
Sometime within the next couple days, I ask you to perform one small act of kindness for someone you don’t know. The reason I suggest it be someone you don’t know is so you’ll experience the power of stepping outside your comfort zone… and also so you’ll recognize that you have the power to give no matter where you are. Do something that isn’t a big sacrifice for you but which will make a positive difference for someone else. Offer a few words of praise, an encouraging letter, a small gift, a little favor. Center yourself in your heart as you do this; feel the desire to do something that is genuinely selfless. Don’t be concerned with how the other person may react.
I'm in. I'm going to find someone I don't know, and do something nice for them. I'll report back what happens. Just bookmark this post, and I'll trackback to it so you can find out what happens. I'll bet that that I, like Steve says, will feel "totally inspired and fulfilled" and I am setting my expectations as though that will be true.
Now it's not that hard to help someone else that's less fortunate than you. Heck, no matter how poorly off you are, you have many things of value. You are valuable to others. You just need to believe it, and then share it, and then you too can be inspired.
This week, do something nice for someone you don't know. And then just walk away, knowing you did something wonderful for someone else.
[Phil Gerbyshak enjoys sharing his abundance with others, and encourages you to do the same, today, tomorrow and every day. It doesn't have to be something big, just something, ANYTHING, and make a difference in someone else's life.]
