5 Ways to Make a Positive Attitude

Happy Positive Thinking Day!

In honor of PTD, I’d like to offer my favorite 5 tips on how YOU can have a positive attitude.

Reframe the situation. No matter how dire the situation is, unless you’re dead, it could always be worse. Trust me. This year, I’ve hit bottom in a lot of my life. Over half my team turned over. I’ve worked REALLY long hours. My best friend moved away. My bank account has been near zero. I gained 20 more pounds.

I’ve had to reframe most of my life.

I have new ideas from all my new people.

I learned a lot during the long hours.

I still talk to my best friend.

My bank account is slowly growing.

I’m doing a duathalon tomorrow to jump start my exercise program.

All depends on how I look at it.

It all depends on how YOU look at it.

Count your blessings. I have a lot to be thankful for. You probably do too. Write the blessings down. Understand your abundance and be thankful for it.

Give thanks to those who’ve helped you. Few people are self-made anymore, but few know how big of an impact they’ve had on your life. Give them a call, and say thanks. Or send a hand-written thank you note. Nobody does that anymore.

Read or listen to something that makes you smile. Re-read a favorite book or article. Listen to some fun music. Maybe it’s the sound of a baby, or the sound of your brother. Call someone who’ll make you smile.

Smile or make a silly face for no reason. Start small, and just smile. It won’t hurt anything. Just smile big and wide!

Thanks Chris Brogan for capturing this action shot.

How can you get happy?

Maybe you should contribute to Positive Thinking Day today?

Thank YOU Phil, for all that you are and continue to become.

Phil - Thanks for the positive thinking! The glass is always half full buddy...although it is hard to remember that some times. Thanks for the friendly reminders.

I'll never forget the first time I met you, Phil. As you know, you and your smile leave an incredible first impression! So your post reminds me that there are people in our lives who may show a pleasant exterior, but they are experiencing a great deal of turmoil. We need to care enough to see through the shell and reach out. And we can't be afraid to reach out to those who love us when we're the one facing turmoil. I also find that getting out in nature really helps my perspective. Nature continually renews herself and keeps on going. It may be storming now, but soon the sun will be shining!

Sense of humor is a great healer. Making funny faces -as you said -works.
Have fun everyone.

Thanks Karen - you are too kind!

Pete - I need to remind myself too, or I would fall off the half-full bandwagon quickly!

Thank you George. Your good words do me GREAT! Thanks for your tip too!!!

Zoltan - thanks for stopping by. Here's a smile and a funny face for you!

Phil, these are all great tips that I use in my life. I have learned that I am the only one responsible for my happiness and most of the time my happiness is dependent upon my attitude. Gratitude is a tremendous gift to myself.

Patricia - You are such a blessing to me and so many others. Thank you for being part of my life!

Phil,

Thanks for sharing these fantastic ways to jump-start a positive attitude! Reframing is so important for keeping our outlook positive. The ability to look at our situation through a slightly different lens can make all the difference in the world! And who hasn't realized, through the simple act of counting their blessings, that they still have far more than they've lost through whatever negative experiences they may be facing? That almost-magical shift of focus from the bad to the good has the power to virtually transform our outlook!

Wonderful reminders!
Jeanne

Phil, I didn't realize that you were having it so tough this past summer. It is so hard to keep your chin up when things are not going so great and look at things from the up side. I always count my blessings when things seem overwhelming and I see you do that as well. Good job! You are one of the blessings in my life, you are one of the 2% of the people in the world that 'get it' and that is just one of the things that make you unique. Thank you for helping me this summer. It is a blessing knowing you.

Personally I LOVE the old photo of you that you continue to use in your blog. It makes me smile every time! In fact, your photo - your HUGE SMILE is the reason I originally subscribed to your blog - and then of course I fell in love with all your positive words of inspiration and cool Wordless Wednesday photos.

Looking forward to having you on Get More Business Show as my guest this Friday 10/10/08 on http://www.BlogTalkRadio.com/GetMoreBusiness.
