Free Ebook: Using the Social Web to Find a Job

Chris Brogan is one of my favorite people on the planet, because he is always finding ways to help make the world a better place. I’ve written about him plenty before, and I will probably write about him again in the future because he’s worth sharing with you. If you don’t already subscribe to his blog, or don’t already have him bookmarked, I hope you will in 2009.

His newest helpful giveaway is a free ebook called Using the Social Web to Find a Job. Go and download it today, even if you’re not looking for work, and put what you learn from Chris into practice. It’s full of stuff you can do to make your life even greater.

Thanks Chris for putting this together! I hope this reaches those who need it.

Free Ebook - Asking Questions for a Change

If you’ve been reading Make It Great! for any period of time, you know how much I LOVE asking questions. My Twofer Tuesdays series is all about asking questions to find some deeper meaning in your life. So when I find another expert question asker or a tip on how you can ask better questions, I have to share it.

Joanna Young put together a wonderful ebook about asking questions for a change. I encourage you to go download it, and then put the tips into practice in your life.

Chris Brogan Says I'm a Rockstar!

Chris Brogan is one of my favorite bloggers, for his authenticity, his insightfulness, and his willingness to share with everyone. He re-launched his “rock star” program of sharing his community with his community.

And now, to share a little love back to Chris (and a little knowledge for you):

Thanks for sharing folks like me with your community Chris. And thanks for all the value you bring to the world.

Interested in World Domination?

Chris Guillebeau offers a fantastic little manifesto called “A Brief Guide to World Domination,” available as a free PDF download. At 29 pages, it’s hardly all encompassing, but it is certainly brief. Thanks to Jonathan Fields of Awake at the Wheel for the link.

The Decision to be Remarkable is one of my favorite articles that I found by looking around Chris’ site a little more. He offers some great tips for those of you who, like me, want to stand out and stand up to the world as we see it. Among his tips:

  • Stop Making Excuses
  • Take Responsibility
  • Take It Up a Level

and a few more. Sounds like a guy after my own heart!

A caution about Chris’ tale: it’s not for everyone. If you’re not willing to take life up a notch and make it great, please don’t read A Brief Guide to World Domination. Then again, if you’re not willing to take life up a notch, you’re probably not reading this blog.

Go get your free copy of A Brief Guide to World Domination and tell ‘em Phil “Make It Great!” Gerbyshak sent you.

Free Ebooks! Free Ebooks!! FREE EBOOKS!

Free ebooks can make you as smart as this kid!

Ellen of InfomaniaWorld shares a great article about the Ultimate Guide to Free Ebooks. VERY cool listing of places to find some excellent ebooks to help you get smarter, faster.

Thanks Ellen for this great find.

My favorites of those listed? Librivox, and the Gutenberg Project Top 100. One that wasn't listed that I enjoy greatly is from the free audio and video at LearnOutLoud. I've also listed the ones I've stumbled across in my travels around the internet at Make It Great Ebooks.

If you have other places to get great free ebooks, I welcome you to leave them here, or stop over to the Ultimate Guide to Free Ebooks and share your insights there.

Together, we can make the world a much smarter place, because ALL of us is always smarter than ONE of us.

ChangeThis: New stuff to help you get smart

Every so often, usually monthly, the smart folks at 800CEOREAD put up some new free ebooks (they call them manifestos) from some really great authors, over at a site called ChangeThis. If you're not familiar with ChangeThis, they were originally started with the genius of Seth Godin, who gave the idea to the folks at 8CR.

The April 2007 edition is among the best batch I've read.

Leading off is John Moore's response to the dilution of Starbucks' brand. It's especially cool because John solicited feedback from all of his readers (yours truly included) to put together this ebook.

Second, Erika Anderson writes about Growing great new managers, a must-read for new managers of any size or shape.

Dan Coughlin
shares with 15 truths to accelerate. Quite outstanding, and important if you're into that business thing.

Speaking of managers, Vince Thompson writes Managers Ignite! Tools for igniting your company, life and career.

I thought this was enough for the month, but oh no. There's also a wonderful little ego check, and how to learn from improbable and unpredictable events such as 9/11, a.k.a. a "black swan."

All very insightful, and all at no cost to you, other than the time it takes you to download and read these excellent manifestos.

That Guy with the Nametag Gives Away the Store

Do you know Scott Ginsberg? He's been wearing a name tag every day for a REALLY long time, but really, it's not about the name tag with Scott. He's frankly just an amazing guy who writes every day at his blog Hello My Name is Scott, he does a ton of speaking engagements every year, and he's willing to help anyone and everyone who needs it.

Recently, Scott put out a really handy (FREE) ebook about speaking, something I hope to get into doing very soon. It was so awesome, and he got so much great feedback  about it, he put together ANOTHER (still FREE!) ebook, this time about writing selling and marketing books.

I share these with you because if you're thinking of being a professional speaker or writer, you really need to read Scott's 2 free ebooks and understand that it's a tough business, and it's not for everybody. Learn from Scott's experience, and hopefully you can make a more informated decision. If you're already speaking and in the lower fee range, perhaps these books can help you tweak a few things and boost your confidence so you can boost your fee.

The last reason I share these with you is because you can take many of the tips Scott shares and use them to make your career better, no matter what career you do. You also should read Scott's other FREE ebooks, 37 Ways to be More Approachable, Be That Guy, and Make a Name for Yourself, 66 Priceless Pieces of Business Advice I Couldn't Live Without, and 55 Great Questions to Ask Someone You Just Met. I share these with you because I have read them, and they've helped me, so I think that you might enjoy them and they might help you.

They're free, so do whatever you want with them. And tell Scott Phil said hello if you do stop by and visit Scott Ginsberg. Because not only is he "that guy with the nametag," he's also that guy with the big heart who likes to help us all learn more, be more, do more. Thanks buddy!

[Phil Gerbyshak is still working on creating his own set of free ebooks. Until they are ready, he'll keep enjoyingall of the amazing people who give away their best stuff, like Lisa Haneberg, Seth Godin, and Guy Kawasaki.]

Be Visible!

This month's edition of Vision Monthly gives us a great theme: Be Visible! Step up, Stand Out, Succeed!

Outstanding title. Peeking around inside, I see articles from 2 people I've gotten to know a bit, Felix Gerena and David Zinger. So of course, I had to read their articles, and the other great articles inside were equally outstanding. My favorite article was by Laura Smart titled Ambition: The Double Edged Sword. Remarkable article, where Laura shares her "strategy for success in the company of an annoyingly persistent need for achievement. I can relate!

All in all, this is a GREAT read, not only this month, but past month's as well.

WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? I'm not going to read you the whole issue. Go check out this month's edition of Vision Monthly: Be Visible! for yourself...TODAY!

Make it a great day!

Free Leadership eBook - Touching All Four

Tim Milburn of StudentL.inc shares a great free leadership eBook today called Touching All Four

One of the questions that students ask me is "how they can improve their leadership abilities on a daily basis?"  They want some basic handles on the kinds of things they should be doing or working toward to become better leaders.  Instead of tossing them definitions of leadership and giving them checklists, I have created a resource that helps them to cover, what I believe, to be the four most important bases of leadership.  I've put it all into a downloadable ebook.

Great book Tim, thanks for teaching us ALL to be better leaders, and sharing your knowledge and experience with us! I found this via the blog Synergy, where Rosa originally had it shared with her via Skip Angel.

Make it a great day!
Phil
